Floral Park was previously named “East Hinsdale” but was renamed to “Floral Park” by John Lewis Childs in order to boost his own business and the horticultural industry. Floral Park was originally part of Queens but became part of Nassau County in 1899 and became an incorporated village in 1908. Floral Park has a total area of 1.4 square miles and is bordered by Bellerose, and Bellerose Terrace on the west, the Queens neighborhood of Floral Park on the north, New Hyde Park and Stewart Manor on the east, and Elmont on the south.
