Matinecock (pronounced mu-tini-COCK) is a village in Nassau County. It is located on the north shore of Long Island, around twenty miles east from the Queens border and around thirty miles east from Midtown Manhattan. Matinecock is bordered by Mill Neck on the east, Upper Brookville on the south, Glen Cove on the west, and Locust Valley on the north. The village has a total area of 2.67 square miles. , the village population was approximately 900. “Matinecock” itself means “The Hill Country" and was named for the Matinecock Nation that originally occupied the area. Matinecock incorporated on April 2, 1928.
