Muttontown is a village in Nassau County, New York. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately twenty miles east of the Queens-Nassau line. , the village population was estimated at 3,500. The village got its name because its area was previously a pasture for sheep. “Mutton” is a historic word for lamb meat. The village was incorporated in 1931. Muttontown is bordered by Syosset on the east, Upper Brookville on the north, Brookville on the west, and Jericho on the south. Muttontown has a total area of 6.06 square miles.
