Seat Belt and Car Seats in Taxis: Long Island Traffic Laws

Taxi seatbelt traffic laws Long Island, NY

22 Mar Seat Belt and Car Seats in Taxis: Long Island Traffic Laws

Up until 2017 taxis were exempt entirely from any seat belt laws. Meaning the taxi driver or any of its passengers did not have to wear a seat belt. Babies can just be held in a lap. In 2017 a new law passed that required the driver and front seat passenger to wear a seat belt.  The exemption for back seat passengers remained.  It is unclear to what extent this applies to car services and ride sharing services such as Uber and Lyft.  If you received a seat belt ticket please feel free to contact the Benjamin Goldman Law Office for a complimentary consultation.
